Fuel for The Fire

Any swimmer will tell you that the one thing they think about just as much as swimming, if not more, is food. I absolutely love food! Us swimmers can consume as many calories as you can feed us and we will still be hungry.

An Apple a Day Keeps The Doctor Away

Last Tuesday I took a visit to the Children's Ward at Hinchingbrooke Hospital for a routine check-up. Apart from my poor sense of humour and strange methods of promoting my own growth (e.g. laying in the garden completely naked) you wouldn't be able to tell that there's anything wrong with me.

In March 2010 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called hypothyroidism. This was after many months of struggling with swimming and just feeling generally awful. I found it hard to breathe during exercise, got numerous aches and pains, put on weight, had a noticeably swollen neck, stopped growing, felt extremely lethargic and confused (even after resting) and felt the cold like a thermometer in a freezer.

Cambridge Excursion

I've got loads of great posts lined up for my blog but first I want to share something from the present. This is because, at one point or another, most of my future posts will contain the phrase 'the other day.'

Yesterday, my mum, brother, sister and I went to Cambridge because we needed to get a new iron and an apple core remover. *Yawn* Our old iron broke and needs replacing but, even though it sounds a little insignificant, the apple core remover is a completely different story.

As a group, we go to Cambridge during the holidays and at weekends quite frequently and, to tell the truth, I really enjoy it! The journey of any trip is generally great (unless you suffer from travel sickness - which I did when I was little) but nothing can compare to our car journeys. We were driving down Mill Road and, thanks to one of my handy little gadgets, I was blaring out Tinie Tempah's new single - Trampoline (feat. 2 Chainz) - through the radio of our Peugeot 807. The only thing I can say - apart from that this song really messes with the bass of your speakers - is that mum got some extremely weird looks from other motorists and a fair few pedestrians!
